AIS

Built-in AIS receiver & repeater

See every vessel around you. AYLO can pass the AIS data on to your plotter as well.

How it fits together

AYLO as an AIS receiver

Vessels with an AIS transmitter broadcast their position, course and speed over VHF several times a minute. AYLO listens in — both to the traffic within range of your own antenna, and to the picture we assemble in the cloud from the whole fleet and from shore stations.

The two sources are combined on board. So you do not only see the vessels your own antenna can hear right now, but also the ones behind a headland or out of range. AYLO shows you AIS vessels up to 100 nautical miles away.

And AYLO does not keep it to itself. The targets are passed on to the plotter you already have, over the boat's NMEA 2000 network, so they appear on the chart you actually navigate by. No external AIS box, no extra subscription, no extra screen.

  • Receives AIS from the vessels around you, with no extra hardware (AYLO AIS works both with and without a VHF antenna)
  • Passes the targets on to your existing chart plotter
  • Fills in with AIS from the cloud when you are out of your own range
  • Keeps the history, so you can see where a vessel has been
Nearby ships send AIS directly over VHF radio to the AYLO unit’s built-in receiver. At the same time, AYLO online collects AIS from the whole area and sends it down to the unit. Both sources are passed on to the AYLO screen and to the chart plotter. AYLO online Other vessels Other vessels AYLO AYLO screen Your plotter VHF VHF VHF radio (own receiver) AYLO online
Nearby ships reach AYLO directly over VHF. The rest comes from AYLO online. AYLO combines both and shows them on your screen — and passes them on to your plotter at the same time.

Built into AYLO

Built-in VHF AIS receiver

AYLO has its own VHF AIS receiver built into the box. The unit listens directly on the channels ships transmit AIS on and shows the traffic around you — even without mobile coverage, and without any other AIS equipment on board.

  • Works without mobile coverage
  • SMA antenna connector
  • Targets forwarded to your plotter

The receiver works together with the two other sources: AIS from the cloud when you are connected, and any AIS receiver you may already have on the NMEA 2000 network. AYLO combines everything into one picture and forwards the targets to your plotter.

The receiver needs an antenna. If your boat has a VHF or AIS antenna with a PL-259 plug that can be shared, connect it with our UHF-to-SMA adapter. Otherwise, plug our magnetic-base AIS antenna straight into AYLO.
